BBC Motion Gallery

We have full access now to the BBC Motion Gallery JISC Service.

The Gallery is the BBC’s archive film clip service and allows staff and students to access a large collection of clips for use in presentations, lectures, coursework and media.

Topics include  current affairs, sport, natural history, medicine, geography, arts and more.

The Gallery will include additional footage from other content partners such as CBS News, NHK and RipCurl.

Trial of Elsevier’s “Scopus”

From 26 June until 23 July, we have  a trial of Scopus, which is scientific publisher Elsevier’s abstract and citation database of research literature and web sources. It claims to contain over 16,500 peer-reviewed journals from more than 4,000 publishers.

SAGE Handbook Collection

SAGE have  made their handbook series available online and have given us free access until the end of July.

The collection includes around 80 books and is available at  www.sage-ereference.com .  Email Mark or John or Toby for the passwords.

Design Abstracts Retrospective trial

Design Abstracts Retrospective is on trial until the 14th July.

It forms a retrospective complement to Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI), covering design journals and yearbooks published between 1900 and 1987, the year in which DAAI began.

InfoSci-Books trial

We have a trial of InfoSci-Books until July 30th -  a database giving access to chapters from every book IGI Global has published since the year 2000.

IGI Global is a leading publisher of scholarly research on advanced computer science and information technology research.

Alexander Street Press trials

We have trials of four Alexander Street Press databases running at the moment.

American Film Scripts Online contains over 1,000 scripts  with detailed information on the scenes, characters and personnel.

Dance in Video contains 250 dance productions and documentaries by the influential performers and companies of the 20th century.

Opera in Video has 250 of the most important opera performances, captured on video through staged productions, interviews, and documentaries.

Theatre in Video contains more than 100  performances of the world’s leading plays, together with more than 60 film documentaries.

The trails last until the end of June.  Usernames and passwords are available from http://www.wlv.ac.uk/lib/trials/currentdatabasetrials.doc .

Free ebooks for downloading

Bookboon.com offers free ebooks for downloading – with travel guides, management texts and IT books included in their roster.

The books are in PDF format and have advertisments every few pages.  The titles are all developed and written for BookBoon.

Ebrary additions and deletions

Every month Ebrary adds new ebooks to its collection and we update OPAC to show the new titles.

It also notifies us of deletions from the collection. You can see the last three months’ worth of deletions here.

New MyiLibrary launched

The new MyiLibrary platform is launched tomorrow – with better searching and different branding.

A new administrative site is being launched too, where we can view usage statistics.

Our OPAC links should be redirected to the new site, but please contact us if you have any problems.

OED gets thumbs up

Thanks for your feedback about renewing the Oxford English Dictionary. It gets the thumbs up again.

The new JISC subscription lasts until the end of May 2011.
