Thumbs up for Expanded Academic

Our subscription to Expanded Academic ASAP will be renewed again this year, thanks to positive feedback from librarians and healthy usage figures.

The database contains over 3,500 full text journals, including key titles for several Schools. All the journals appear on OPAC and the E-Journals A-Z.

New digital images websites

New links added to the Art & Design resources pages:

The World Digital Library (WDL) makes available on the Internet, free of charge and in multilingual format, significant primary materials from countries and cultures around the world.

And collections of images from the London Transport Museum.

CareKnowledge

We have access now to CareKnowledge which offers a wide range of  materials across social care.

The site gives access to key journals and ebooks and produces its own special reports. It gives separate  views for England and Scotland, has overviews of adult and child services, and provides details of national organisations.

Ebrary renewed

Thanks to everyone who joined in the discussion about renewing Ebrary’s Academic Complete collection of ebooks. We’ve decided to renew it for another year.

It was generally thought that the collection is worth continuing: it provides core texts for a number of Schools, and it’s a valuable source of background reading across subjects.

Usage figures show that Business and Economics titles have been most used, followed by Social Science, Education, and Medical titles.

Up the Twitter?

Are you disappointed when a new Electronic Resources update turns out to be just a maintenance/downtime notification?

Our dynamic SCIT Librarian Helen Curtis suggested we could use the new WordPress Twitter widget for up-to-the-second maintenance updates, leaving the main page free for the real juicy stuff.

You’ll see it at the top of the sidebar to your right…when Twitter is responding (keep refreshing)… let us know what you think.
