Ebrary personal profile problem

There’s a problem with the “My settings ” of Ebrary.

If you change the Personal profile details you will be locked out of the site permanently .

At the moment all details are defaulting to Liz Bowles’ email address: e.a.bowles@wlv.ac.uk, and to some Athens coding. Please don’t change them.

We’ve asked Ebrary to disable the My settings as soon as possible.

Wiley InterScience Maintenance

Due to essential site maintenance, access to Wiley InterScience may be intermittently disrupted on Saturday 28th March.

The full site will not go offline, but may experience minor disruptions where items such as the search or customer service interfaces will be unavailable for periods of about 30-40 minutes.

123Library

123Library is the new ebook service on the block.

It offers titles from leading publishers like  Oxford University Press, Informa Healthcare, Blackwell and Sage, and title-by-title purchasing.

Their catalogue of titles is at  http://www.123library.org/catalogue/.

IHS authentication check

You may be aware of problems accessing the IHS databases this week: they have been changing over to federated access, and the site has been very unstable.

New users (and cookie-clearers) may be encountering an ‘Authentication Check’ page  - regardless of prior authentication.

Selecting ‘University of Wolverhampton’ from the drop-down menu should get you into the resource, but your internet browser may identify security concerns.

Let us know if you have problems.

BBC Motion Gallery trial

We have a 30 day trial of BBC Motion Gallery.

It’s a vast collection of moving imagery from the BBC on topics such as current affairs, sport, natural history, medicine, geography,  and the arts.

The Gallery will include additional footage from other content partners such as CBS News, NHK and RipCurl.

Burney Newspaper Collection

The Burney Newspaper Collection of news media from the 17th and 18th centuries, is ready to use now.

It has newspapers and news pamphlets, mostly published in London – but includes some English provincial, Irish and Scottish papers.  It also has a few examples from the American colonies, Europe and India.

The database called British Newspapers 1600-1900, which you’ll also see on the Gale site, brings together the Burney collection and the 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection, into one searchable package.

Both are brought to us by JISC, free of charge.

HeinOnline via SuperSearch

There’s a reported problem with HeinOnline searches via SuperSearch.

Situation: All Hein connections, except for Hein Online Law Journal Library, need redevelopment to fulfill new authentication requirements.

Status: Connections in testing.

SuperSearch stops Googling

SuperSearch has severed all connections to Google – “effective immediately” .

It means that you won’t get Google results from SuperSearch searches from now on.

It’s because of Google’s terms of use. The terms say that federated search engines are not allowed to display the results from Google “properties”.

Serial Solutions, which provides  SuperSearch, have only just read them, it seems.

AgeInfo and ChildData cancelled

Subscriptions to two School of  Health  databases, AgeInfo and ChildData, are being cancelled.

The databases supported courses which no longer run, and their usage figures are at low levels.

AgeInfo will be available until the end of June;  ChildData finishes at the end of May.
