Five Weeks to a Social Library

Five Weeks to a Social Library is a free online course for librarians about social software. It covers blogs, RSS, wikis, social networking, Flickr and social bookmarking – and how you could use them in a library.

There’s a mix of webcasts, podcasts, lectures and slides.

Landmap Service

We have access now to Landmap, which gives satellite images of the British Isles.

It’s optical and radar images can be used with image or graphics software, or with mapping data from Ordnance Survey.

Beta ARTstor

ARTstor is introducing a new platform and user interface. It hopes to make things faster and easier.

You can try the beta version from a link on the site.  Meanwhile the  current version – ARTstor Legacy -  will still be working throughout the upcoming academic year.

New title alerts from MyiLibrary

MyiLibrary can set up monthly alerts of new ebooks, based on your subject needs. Please contact us for more details.

CAMIO arts

warhol cans CAMIO – the Catalog of Museum of Art Museum Images Online – is available on campus now.

The site presents art images from around the world, representing the collections of prominent museums.  It covers photgraphs, print, sculpture, paintings, textiles and architecture.

There’s a username and password for off-campus users, available from the Databases a-z page.

Blackwell Synergy shuts down

Blackwell Synergy will close down at the end of business (Pacific Standard Time) on Friday June 27th.

All of our journal content will move to Wiley Interscience, ready to use by Monday June 30th.

Over the weekend of June 28th and 29th there will be a period when Wiley InterScience will be unavailable while the transition takes place.

The Blackwell Synergy link on the Databases A-Z page will remain for the time being, but will redirect you to Wiley Interscience. OPAC links for Blackwell titles will redirect you to the equivalent page on Wiley Interscience.

New EBSCO platform

A new version of the EBSCOhost platform starts in July.

This will affect Business Source Premier, Inspec, Hospitality & Tourism Index, RILM, Computer Source, SportDiscus, SocIndex, LISTA, Cinahl Plus and IBSS.

You can try the new version by clicking on the New Features link at the top of the EBSCOhost main page.

Archaeology – new resource

We’ve access now to the Internet Archaeology archive  – the premier e-journal for archaeology.

Access comes thanks to a JISC deal which gives us free access to the site.  We get access to the journal’s content from 1996 to 2006 (issues 1-21).

It covers a range of subject areas besides archaeology – such as biological and earth sciences, creative arts, geography and art history.

SwetsWise

Due to the release of SwetsWise 5.1 this weekend the SwetsWise Interface will be down between 8am and 12pm on Saturday 21st June.

ARTstor

ARTstor - the online library of art images – is now available on campus. There’s a link on our Databases A-Z page. It’s one of three new image databases which Tom is subscribing to. The others will be along soon.

ARTstor has around 700,000 images of art, architecture, the humanities and social sciences. You can print and save them, and organise them into shared folders.
