New JSTOR platform

The scholarly periodical archive JSTOR shifts to a new platform during this week.

We have two collections from the site – the Language and Literature Collection and the Arts & Science 2 Collection.

The main address for the site will continue to be http://www.jstor.org. Exisiting links to the site and journals won’t change.

You can register for a webinar about the new interface at the JSTOR Training page at http://www.jstor.org/resources/training.html.

Art images on trial

We have trials of two image databases running during the next month.

The first is Camio (Catalog of Art Images Online). It documents works of art from museums and galleries from around the world. The collection includes photos, painting, sculpture, architecture and textiles. Our trial runs until the 25th March.

The second is Bridgeman Education – which gives access to the Bridgeman Art Library database. It covers every civilization from Mesopotamia to Mesoamerica and every period from prehistoric times to the present. The trial runs until the 9th April.

Usernames and passwords for both trials are available here.

Times Higher Education

The Times Higher Education (previously the Times Higher Education Supplement) has a nice new website.

There’s lots of interesting and relevant information for anyone involved in UK higher education.

E-Books event

University College London is hosting the 2008 E-books and E-content event this year.

It will look at how you can get the best out of ebooks and how to incorporate them into your exisiting services.

How are students using e-content in their learning at the moment – and how will we design content for the future?

There will be sessions from e-content developers, e-publishers, business analysts and e-learning experts. They’ll look at good practice from the UK, Europe and internationally.

It’s being held on the 13th May 2008, 10.00 to 16.30. For more information, contact us.

SuperSearch launches

Our new seach engine – SuperSearch – goes public this week.

It’s designed to help you make better use of our high-quality databases. Now instead of searching each database individually, you can search many of them at the same time. It’s a fast one-stop search.

You can limit your searches to just your subject area, or search right across the resources linked up to SuperSearch.

In the coming months you’ll see more and more databases available for searching through SuperSearch. You’ll also be able to use it in WOLF.
